Set up - Email Client

If you have an e-mail account to go with your site, follow these details to set it up on your PC. It may be useful to print this page before you start.

There are now so many types of email clients, versions and ways of setting them up that I no longer give exact details to follow.
There are however some key characteristics and I detail these below.

Start your email client, you do not need to be on-line to set up the new account, although some systems run a validity check that will require you to be on-line.

  • Select ADD an account
  • The account type must be POP3
  • USER INFORMATION:
In YOUR NAME - enter your name as you wish it to display
In the E-MAIL ADDRESS - enter the actual e-mail address that will be used, ie: yourname@yoursite.com.
(Italic part needs to be changed to reflect your actual details and the 'yourname' part must reflect the details I put on the server and must be in lower case).
  • SERVER INFORMATION:
In INCOMING MAIL (POP3) enter mail.yoursite.com
In OUTGOING MAIL (SMTP) enter mail.yoursite.com
  • LOGON INFORMATION:
USER NAME - is your full e-mail address (eg: yourname@yoursite.com)
PASSWORD - enter your password (all lower case)
Make sure that the REMEMBER PASSWORD box is ticked
  • The LOG ON USING SECURE PASSWORD box must be unticked
  • The following is sometimes under ADVANCED or MORE settings, without this setting being applied you will not be able to send email.
    On the OUTGOING SERVER settings:
MY OUTGOING SERVER (SMTP) REQUIRES AUTHENTICATION must be ticked
Then ensure that the first 'radio' button (USE SAME SETTINGS AS MY INCOMING MAIL SERVER) is selected
Press OK to return to main set up screen
  • Click FINISH

To make your new account the default ie: your main e-mail address, (any others will still work fine):

  • Select TOOLS and E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
  • Select VIEW OR CHANGE EXISTING E-MAIL ACCOUNTS
  • Select the e-mail account to be made the default account (highlight it)
  • Press the SET AS DEFAULT BUTTON on the right of the dialogue box
  • Press APPLY or OK

NOTE:

Some ISP's have started blocking 3rd party accounts (ie: like the above set up). Should you encounter problems sending e-mails from your site e-mail address take the following actions:

  • In your email client Select MORE or ADVANCED SETTINGS
  • In OUTGOING MAIL (SMTP) the current entry will probably be 25, if not, make a note of the number
  • Change this number to 8025, if this doesn't work try 587
  • Press APPLY and then OK
